Yeast Infection of the Skin – Learning about Skin Candidiasis

Our skin has many micro organisms living on it and this includes the fungi called Candida albicans. This fungus likes areas that are moist and warm such as underarms, the abdomen, skin folds, the groin, and under the breasts. When a person has a yeast infection of the skin (otherwise known as Intertrigo or cutaneous Candidiasis the balance of these micro organisms has been capsize and this fungus has over developed and spread, bringing along some unwanted and unpleasant symptoms.
There are several reasons why it may happen such as weather that is humid and hot, wearing tight underwear that does not allow the skin to breath and has no air circulation and also poor hygiene. If a person has another illness that weakens their immunity like HIV, AIDs or diabetes this can also make them more prone to skin yeast problems. Antibiotics taken regularly or very a long time period is another cause as it kills all the bacteria in the body, including the prosperity bacteria that stopped the yeast overgrowing.
Common symptoms include:
-Maceration on the skin that are raw looking and red.
-Some areas, particularly around skin folds, will be very itchy, clear fluids may ooze from there and will be sore.
-Rashes that glisten and regard edges that have scaling. Around the main rash there may also be island lesions.
It is important when treating this condition to keep the infected areas as dry as you can. Skin ointments and creams that are anti-fungal like clotrimazole and miconazole are also effective. To help clear up the infection antibacterial soap can also be used. There are several good natural remedies such as shark liver oil and cod liver oil which are effective. Holistic approaches are more popular today for curing yeast infections because they treat the whole body and are permanent.
Of course better than curing a yeast infection is to prevent one. Wear loose cotton underwear, try to loose weight if you have a lot of fat folds and be of advantage sure you maintain a good hygiene routine. Avoid sitting in wet clothing for long periods such as a bathing suit and also look at making changes in your regimen. Yeast Infections
