Robots to rescue wounded on battlefield

FORT DETRICK, Md. (Army News Service, Nov. 22, 2010) — A robot being tested now may soon have the ability to rescue wounded Soldiers under fire without risking additional lives.

The Battlefield Extraction-Assist Robot, or BEAR, has been tested over the past year by Soldiers at the U.S. Army Infantry Center Maneuver Battle Lab at Fort Benning, Ga.

The BEAR can be controlled remotely by a motion-capture glove or specially-equipped rifle grip. A warfighter could use the equipment to guide the robot to recover a wounded Soldier and bring him or her back to where a combat medic could safely conduct an initial assessment.

Army launches new website for wounded warriors

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (Nov. 9, 2010) — The Army Warrior Transition Command launched a new website covering issues identified in feedback from wounded, ill and injured Soldiers and veterans.

The new site, www.WTC.army.mil, was designed to be a comprehensive source of information on Army warrior care for more than 16,000 wounded, ill and injured soldiers and veterans.

In an effort to improve the Warrior Care and Transition Program, Army officials said they sought feedback from severely wounded Army veterans and from Soldiers at 29 Warrior Transition Units located throughout the United States and Europe. Continue reading…

Men Have a Distorted View of What Women Find Attractive

Attention men! This just in: you don’t need to gain 30 pounds of muscle in order for women to find you attractive.

I found this post from back in the year 2000 about a Harvard study in which college-aged men were asked to pick their ideal body from a group of images. Most men chose the body with 30 pounds more muscle mass than what they currently had.

A group of college females were then asked to choose which of the body images they were most attracted to. The majority of the women picked a body with 15-30 pounds less muscle than the men picked. <
