Every time I set foot in the gym, I see people that haven’t the slightest clue as to why they are there, nor what they should be doing.

I often see them struggling with weights that are way too heavy or i find gym-goers that are training with the intensity of a sloth on Valium.

I’m not trying to be sexist here by any means, as these traits often apply to both genders.

Preventive medicine keeps Soldiers in the fight

NANGARHAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – “Mosquitoes, ants, and wasps, oh my!”

The unforgiving terrain of the Nangarhar, Nuristan, Konar and Laghman provinces in eastern Afghanistan hosts hoards of insects and wildlife that create quite a hairy situation when it comes to co-habitating with troops; however, the Soldiers of the preventive medicine section of Charlie Company, 426th Brigade Support Battalion, Task Force Bastogne, see “combat” with these creatures on a daily basis.

‘The Warrior Pose’: Army considers yoga to treat Soldiers’ pain

Lt. Col. Michele Spencer, 48th Combat Support Hospital, (center, blue top) leads a free yoga class at Gaffney Fitness Center. The Army Surgeon General is considering yoga and other alternative therapies such as biofeedback, acupuncture and meditation to help treat Soldiers with acute and chronic pain. FORT MEADE, Md. — Sgt. 1st Class Felicie Spencer takes medication for the pain she experiences from an injury.

But for a few months this spring, Spencer attended yoga classes at Gaffney Fitness Center. A member of Fort Meade’s Warrior Transition Unit at Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center, Spencer said the practice soothed her discomfort.

Hospitals Hire To Keep Up With Growing Diversity, Tech Challenges

“As more immigrants crowd its waiting rooms, Elmhurst Hospital is joining a growing number of hospitals in New York and across the country that are going beyond hiring interpreters and offering translated paperwork and are adopting practices intended to improve care for an increasingly diverse patient population,” The New York Times reports. “Doctors and nurses are interviewing religious leaders, visiting cultural centers and even traveling abroad to better understand their patients.
